Hardships
Endured
Malcolm X endured many hardships. He lived in a racist era, was orphaned and in and out of foster care, and served time in prison. In the face of tremendous, white oppression, he advocated for social change and black self-determination, by any means necessary, even if it meant violence. He was part of a Black Nationalist movement during the civil rights era, and within this group, there was a lot of conflict about how to achieve their ends. He was assassinated and killed by three members of the Nation of Islam in 1965. This was a group he used to lead, but later rejected. Ironically, while he fought a racist, white society, he was killed by black ex-colleagues.
